Workshops and EventsDiscover a "passion for smashin'." Learn the basics of making mosaics at our hands-on workshops in a friendly, fun and relaxed studio setting. Beginning mosaicists will receive professional instruction in the traditional pique assiette or "stolen plate" style using bits of tile, china and other treasures to mosaic a project of their choice. All materials and supplies are included and necessary tools and safety items are provided.
Day 1 focuses on basic mosaic terms, personal safety practices and proper use of essential tools. Next, simple design suggestions are offered, or use one of your own, as you choose from a "pallete" of materials for your personal project. Finally you will be shown how to nip, break and set shards or "tesserae" to the base using the direct method. Day 2 you will learn to properly grout your project. The importance of proper grout selection, mixing, applying, finishing, and curing is discussed. Due to limited class size early registration is suggested. To reserve your space, total fee or a $50 deposit ($100 for specialty workshops) must be received prior to workshop with balance due on day of workshop. Gift certificates available. Camp Ocean Pines, Cambria, Ca. Join us on Feb 22-24 for
a weekend workshop/retreat surrounded by towering pines and panoramic
ocean views. Projects will include the on-site installation of colorful
mosaic "snakes" in floor cracks of the Arts & Crafts Bldg.
You will also mosaic your own 12" stepping stone to take home.
The weekend begins with a slide presentation on Fri. evening, followed
by a full days work Sat., and grouting on Sun. morning. Includes all
materials plus 2 nights lodging in dorm-style strawbale cabins and 5
